- Followers detect that the leader has failed
- Followers elect a new leader
- Clients are redirected to the new leader
Unless the old leader is fully isolated following a detected failure, there is a risk of split brain.
If the timeout used for detecting leader failure is even more sensitive than usual, since the leader is usually a single point of failure.
